Orange County Criminal Justice Data

In 2023, Chicanxs Unidxs and the ACLU, represented by the PJLC, sued the Orange County District Attorney for data regarding criminal prosecutions that the District Attorney had refused to make public. Upon instruction from the Superior Court, the OCDA made available all of the non-personally identifying data in their case management system, going back to the year 2000. The PJLC makes this data available on this website so that the public may better understand the application of the criminal justice system in Orange County.

Racial Justice Act  Support

The PJLC is currently analyzing this data so that we may partner with criminal defense attorneys and pro per litigants to provide expert testimony regarding our findings.  Based on preliminary findings, we believe this data will likely support motions under California's Racial Justice Act seeking to reduce criminal punishment for defendants for a broad range of charges on the basis that defendants of color are punished more harshly than are white defendants.
